# Sound Packs

Fresh audio is more fun

## Summary

Just like regular design, [**sound design**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_design) also comes in trends, and having a flexible library becomes essential for creators to keep up with a fast-moving industry.

We aim to release a new Sound Pack each month full of interesting sounds to enhance the library. Each new Sound Pack is continually maintained and improved by our Composer and head of Audio Production, [Isaac Brockshus](https://mtmograph.com/pages/about-us).

The maintenance includes improving existing Tags and Cue Points, re-mastering audio and adding even more new sounds.

## Downloading

It's easy and fun to get the latest Sound Packs. New Sound Packs are synced out via the Mt. Mograph servers and updates are automatically delivered to you. All you have to do is click the 'Available' packs and see what new ones are available.

{% hint style="success" %}
Sound Packs you have already installed will receive updates automatically.
{% endhint %}

## Sound Data

There is a lot more than meets the eye with the Boombox Library sounds. They include tags and cue points to make sound design more fluid.

### Cue Point

Every sound effect in the Library has a "cue" point / or in musical terms "hit point".

Align your CTI (Current Timeline Indicator) with a visual action in your Composition or Sequence and when you Add the sound, the cue point will line up with the CTI.

### Search Tags

Sounds have a wide spectrum of flavors, so it's important to have more than one way to find the right sound effects. Each sound has tags, describing the sound in terms of motion, action, and even phonetically making them very easy to find.

# Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions.

## Make sure your Adobe installation is up to date

Boombox supports Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, version **CC2019 and up**.\
If you are running an older version, please update the program.\
If you cannot or don't want to update, we can only help you by refunding your order.

## Make sure you are running the latest version of Boombox

Most issues are solved with a clean install, and / or removing the configuration data.\
So before anything else, make sure you've got the latest version of Boombox installed. You can find and download the latest version of Boombox [here](https://mtmograph.com/pages/downloads).

## Adobe 2024 Update

If you've recently updated to AE 2024 and are experiencing issues, you can try the following:

1. First, make sure to use our .*exe or .pkg* installer. This will ensure that old extension versions are properly cleaned up.
2. If on Windows, and the Motion 4 panel is not displaying, try running After Effects as an Admin. You should only have to do this once.
3. If you're still experiencing issues, you can try a ZXP installer. We recommend <https://install.anastasiy.com/>, as it has full support for Adobe 2024 applications. Other ZXP installers do not support 2024 as of this writing.

## Check your Extensions folder

Sometimes, updates between Adobe applications, installer bugs, or other issues can lead to the extension being duplicated or corrupted in your extensions folder. You can find your extensions in the following locations:

***

On **Windows**, the folders are:\
`C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions`

or

`C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions`

and

`C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME_HERE\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions`

\
And on **macOS** the folders are:\
`/Users/YOUR_USERNAME_HERE/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions`

and

`/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions`

***

From here, you should see a **Boombox** folder. If you see any *additional* Boombox folders (such as **com.mtmograph.boombox**), you should **delete** them. After deleting the additional folders, you can restart the Adobe application.

## Uninstalling Boombox

If you are still having problems with Boombox you can try to uninstall Boombox completely. You have two options here:

If you successfully logged in with your license key and you are able to access the panel, you can go to the Menu > About > Uninstall. This action will remove all of the files and folders associated with Boombox for you.

If you are not able to log in with your license key and you are encountering problems on the login screen, you can remove the following files:

On **Windows**, the folders are:\
`C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\Boombox`

or

`C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\Boombox`

and

`C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME_HERE\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions\Boombox`

\
And on **macOS** the folders are:\
`/Users/YOUR_USERNAME_HERE/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/Boombox`

and

`/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/Boombox`

When all the folders are removed, install Boombox again with the latest installer. You can find the latest installer [here](https://mtmograph.com/pages/downloads).

## Clear the configuration data

Boombox stores installed packs, your license key, and other preferences in a configuration folder.\
Some of these files might have gotten corrupted, causing Boombox to work incorrectly, and most commonly reported: "Hang on the loading screen".

By removing the configuration folder, you will get a 100% clean installation.

{% hint style="danger" %}
This will also **remove your User Packs** make sure to export them first!
{% endhint %}

On **Windows**, the folder is:\
`C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME_HERE\AppData\Roaming\boomboxstable`\
\
And on **macOS** it is:\
`/Users/YOUR_USERNAME_HERE/Library/Application Support/boomboxstable`

## Manual installation

Some problems occur during the regular installation method and thus is a manual installation required. This should only be done if both the pkg/exe installation and the ZXP installation fail. Manually installing Boombox goes as follows:

On **Windows**:

1. Download the latest .[ZXP](https://www.mtmograph.com/pages/downloads) for the tool.
2. Rename the .zxp file to .zip
3. Unzip the .zip, you will get a folder.
4. **(Important!)** Rename the folder to **Boombox**
5. Copy that Folder to:

 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\ (64 bit operating system)\
 or\
 C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\ (32 bit operating system)
6. Restart the Adobe program

on **macOS:**

1. Download the latest .[ZXP](https://www.mtmograph.com/pages/downloads) for the tool.
2. Rename the .zxp file to .zip
3. Unzip the .zip, you will get a folder.
4. **(Important!)** Rename the folder to **Boombox**
5. Copy that Folder to

 /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions
6. Restart the Adobe program

# Packs

## Summary

The Packs page is the place where you can find all the packs that come with Boombox, and also your own packs, which you can import here or make yourself. This page is the perfect starting place if you are looking for a specific sound, vibe, or emotion that you want to add to your timeline!

## Boombox packs

When you open Boombox for the first time you will see that there is already an extensive collection of packs that come with Boombox. These packs regularly and new packs appear almost every month. You can start exploring these packs by downloading all of the packs, or if space on your workstation is limited download just single packs that fit your style just perfectly.

By clicking on a pack you select the pack and some new options will appear in the Action button in the search bar. Now you can see that specific pack information or uninstall this single pack.

![Action button when a pack is selected](/files/-MkvaSGhh0XNkwgfHFBO)

{% hint style="info" %}
By holding SHIFT + clicking the packs you can select multiple packs and browse through only the sounds of these packs.
{% endhint %}

At the bottom of the panel, you will see the pack title, sound count, and most common tags for this pack. You can search for the tag by clicking on one. You will also find the pack information and an option to uninstall the pack in the small menu in the corner.

![The infopanel of the pack](/files/-MkvbBqmlJkngLd0Z11D)

{% hint style="info" %}
When you have one or multiple packs selected, you can click again on the pack to browse through the sounds of the pack(s).
{% endhint %}

## User packs

In the latest version of Boombox, we made it easier to make your own packs, filled with your favorite sounds, and also to export and import your own packs. Creating your own pack is easy and straightforward.

To start off you navigate to the User tab on the Packs screen and here you either "Create Pack" or "Import User Pack". You are then prompted to the Pack Manager panel.

![Creating a user pack](/files/-MkvdZuRR_3YdKraFJP0)

If you have a selection of sounds that you want to put in a pack, drag them over the panel, or click "Add Sounds". The sounds will appear in a list and you can edit a single sound by clicking it. If you hold SHIFT + clicking the sound you can select and edit multiple sounds.

In the info panel, you can edit the name of the sound, title and image of the pack, manage and add tags to the sound, and define the "hit" point of the sound by sliding the cue point slider.

![Editing a sound in the user pack](/files/-MkvffXbeyR6tvkhyg8A)

Lastly, in the list on the left side of your sounds list, you find all of the tags that Boombox ships with. You can also assign these tags to your own sounds so you'll always find what you want when browsing through Boombox. You can select the tags for a sound by clicking the tags while you have one sound selected, or when you have multiple sounds selected.

If you are happy with your pack, you can hit "Save" in the top right corner and close the Pack Manager panel. Alternatively, you can click "Save & Export" to save a .ZIP of the pack, so you can import it later.

# Browse

## Summary

On the Browse page, you are able to interact with all of the sounds in Boombox, or only the ones you searched for. Add them to the timeline, cue them on your desired point or swap them with a different sound; this is the page where you do all of that and more.

## SFX actions

The main part of the Browse page is for you to add sounds to the timeline and make this as easy as possible. There are a couple of ways to add a sound to the timeline.

![Different ways of adding your sound to the timeline](/files/-Ml9n2BZUylLBzAfQTSK)

First of all, you can select a sound and hit the "Add" button, or alternatively, you can hit Enter on your keyboard. This will line up the cue point of the sound with your Current Time Indicator (CTI) in your timeline.

{% hint style="info" %}
Every Boombox sound has a cue point. This is the point in the sound where audio "hits" or peaks. Line up the CTI with the peak of your animation to sync sounds perfectly!
{% endhint %}

The second method that you can use to add sounds to the timeline is using the "Cue Sound" action. If you don't want to sync up a sound to the CTI, but to another sound, you can use this button. First, select the sound in your timeline that you want to have your new sound lined up to, then select the sound that you want to import, then click "Cue Sound". Now you have these two sounds lined up perfectly on their cue points.

The third method of adding a sound is using the "Swap Sound" action. The name speaks for itself, it swaps the sound that you select with a new sound. So first, select the sound in the timeline that you want to swap with, then select the new sound that you want to have in your timeline, then click "Swap Sound" and these two sounds will be swapped.

{% hint style="info" %}
In After Effects, when you add a sound, a marker is added to the sound to visually see where the cue point is. You can hide these markers by going to Menu > Interface > Cue Point Markers
{% endhint %}

## Searching sounds

To find the perfect sound for your animation you need good ways to look for them. Boombox has multiple options to do this.

If you have a really specific sound in mind and you know what it's called as well you can use the search bar to type in the name of this sound. The list will automatically filter for you.

If you are not sure how a sound is called, but you know the vibe of the sound that you're are looking for, you can use the list of tags on the left side of the list of sounds. Every sound has multiple tags and by clicking on a tag you get a list of all the sounds that have that specific tag. By holding SHIFT + clicking the tags you can select multiple tags.

If you know that you are looking for sounds in a specific pack or packs, you can search for packs by clicking on the little Boombox circle logo in the search bar. This will open up a list of all the packs installed and from here you can select one or multiple and make that your selection. You can remove the packs from your selection again by clicking their bubble images in the search bar.

# Live Editor

Compose on the perfect stage

## Summary

Sounds are essential in motion design and settings these up can be hard and confusing. That's why we started a mission to set up sounds more visually and see how all your sounds fit together. The Live Editor is the tool we ended up with and it lets you edit the pan and volume of a single sound or multiple sounds together in a compact and complete space

## Constellation

The main part of the Live Editor is the Constellation where you can see all of your timeline sounds and drag them around. In the Constellation you can simultaneously control the volume and pan of a sound or multiple sounds together.

![Constellation with sounds on start up](/files/0b7eyasVNuiuE4py5x3W)

{% hint style="info" %}
Because all of the timeline sounds are imported on **0dB** and **centered** you can find them all in the same place in the Constellation. If you start dragging them around you can see that there are more sounds there!
{% endhint %}

### Selected Sound

If you start selecting sounds in your timeline or in the Constellation they start appearing yellow indicating that you are editing this sound or multiple sounds. By **Shift + Click,** you can add or remove sounds from your selection. In the Constellation you can adjust the volume and pan of only one sound indicated by turning yellow. If you have multiple sounds selected you can edit the pan and volume separately of these sounds in the Info panel.

### Volume

In the Constellation you can edit both the pan and volume of a sound. The volume of a sound in the Constellation ranges initially from **-60dB** to **15dB** and starts in the center of the Constellation and increasing as you drag the sound more to the blue outside border of the Constellation. You can customize the volume range to your liking in one of the Constellation preferences.

![Volume range and changing it to your liking.](/files/twmgQmuJEy8ExK5KYwMc)

### Panning

Panning a sound works in a circular way. A sound starts above the center at **00°** and pans to left or right depending on which way you drag the sound, all the way to below the center of the Constellation where the sound is completely panned either left or right.

![](/files/RWEZJX712DnrhAj1eOTG)

{% hint style="info" %}
When a sound is selected you can see the specific volume and pan amounts of that sound in the Info panel. You can open this by clicking the triangle button in the Footer.
{% endhint %}

### Audio skinning

To edit the sounds with a bit more context to their neighboring sounds, you can try out the Audio Skin function. It essentially filters sounds to only show a couple of previous sounds and next sounds, so you will get a nice overview of where a sound group is placed in space.

Toggling Audio Skin and other options are hidden under the Ghost icon in the top left corner of the constellation. Turning on Audio Skin will give every sound a more unique color as well, compared to the regular view. The next option to toggle is Audio Ghosts. If toggled on, all sounds that are currently not editable are displayed by a greyed-out cross. The Pre and Post options of the Audio Skin menu are sliders for you to determine how many sounds you want to display before the selected sound and after the selected sound.

![Audio Skin menu](/files/zzaAkU9yhUygWQVzm4fB)

{% hint style="info" %}
Selecting a different sound in the Constellation while Audio Skin is on will not update the group that you are working in. To go to the next selection group you can use the arrows in the audio timeline.
{% endhint %}

### Constellation options

The circle on the right bottom corner of the Constellation contains a couple of small functions.

#### Auto-Play

When the Auto-Play is toggled on, sounds will automatically play after updating them. This way you can hear the new volume and/or pan of the sound.

#### Grid Visibility

Grid visibility lets you toggle the grid that is displayed on the Constellation for a more clear view.

#### Live Polling

Turning the Live Polling on or off will determine when Boombox pulls the sounds from your timeline. After updating a sound in the Constellation Boombox will always update, but if Live Polling is turned off and you add sounds to your timeline then these will not show up in the Constellation. In larger projects with loads of sounds, polling them into Boombox all the time can be really CPU intensive and that's why it's recommended to turn Live Polling off then.

## Timeline

In the Live Editor view, we have replaced the search bar with a mini timeline of all the sounds in your current project. Every sound is represented with a small block and by clicking on one you can select the sound. We made it also easy to cycle through sounds with the arrows on the left and right sides of the timeline.

# Collections

## Summary

The Collections page is the spot to find all of your favorite sounds, a history of sounds you imported, and all of the sounds in your current project, on the same compact screen as the Browse page.

## Favorites

Throughout Boombox you can favorite every sound that you like and want to use another time. A list of all your favorites is compiled on this page. In the Action button in the search bar, you have the option to unfavorite all of the sounds if you would like to do that.

![Options on the Favorites page](/files/hWODjuljYObjsBW5qh99)

## History

Every time you import a sound from Boombox into your timeline it gets saved in the History list. This is not limited by the project but tracks all of the imports you made using Boombox.

## Project

To get a more concise view of all the sounds that you used in your current project you can head over to the project tab. If you like the current collection of sounds, or you want to work on your project on a different workstation and have all the sounds packed together, there is the option to "Create Project Pack". This will grab all of the sounds in your project and put them in a pack. You can then also easily export this pack and import it elsewhere.

# License System

## Pay once, play forever

Software is getting more and more subscription-based and we get why companies are using this business model. Mt. Mograph believes that if you buy software, it should be yours, forever. No yearly subscriptions, and no hidden costs. Pay once, play forever.

## The miracle of Auto-Update

All of our tools are equipped with an auto-update system. When we release an update, you will immediately receive the latest version and are ready to play with the newest tools. If you don't want your tool to update automatically, in Boombox you can go to Menu > Updates and turn Auto-Updates off.

## Remotely login and logout, anywhere

Installing Boombox on multiple workstations is no problem. You can take your license key and just log in somewhere else. If you have exceeded your seats you can just "kick" another workstation out and you are ready to pick up where you left off.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you want to work on multiple workstations at the same time, but you don't have enough seats, no worries! Just send us a message at <support@mtmograph.com> and we'll give you a sweet deal to get extra seats.
{% endhint %}

## New upgrades are your best friend

Mt. Mograph is working very hard to make the perfect tools for our users and we frequently update Boombox with new features, fixes, and fresh sounds to work with.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can see the latest changelog in Boombox if you go to Menu and click on the version number in the right bottom corner of the panel.
